Rose quartz is a pale pink variety of quartz. It is often called the stone of tenderness, and it is one of the most loved stones for gentle, everyday jewelry.
What it traditionally means
In many cultures rose quartz is linked to love, kindness and gentleness, to others and to yourself. These are traditional associations, not medical or scientific claims, and we offer them as part of the stone's story rather than as a promise.
What it looks like
Natural rose quartz ranges from barely-there blush to deeper rose. It is usually slightly cloudy, because tiny inclusions scatter the light, and that soft, milky glow is a good sign. Very clear, intensely pink stones are often treated or are a different material.
How hard is it?
Rose quartz is a quartz, which is fairly hard and takes everyday wear well. It can still scratch against harder stones and chip on a sharp knock.
Sunlight and fading
The pink color of many rose quartz stones can fade after long exposure to strong sunlight. Do not leave the jewelry on a sunny windowsill, and store it in a pouch or box away from direct light.
Everyday care
- Put jewelry on after perfume, lotion and hair spray.
- Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth. Avoid harsh cleaners and ultrasonic machines.
- Store each piece separately so stones and clay details do not rub against one another.
