How to care for natural stone and polymer clay jewelry

06.11.2026 · 1 min

Jewelry that combines natural stone with a hand-sculpted polymer clay detail is durable when you treat it kindly. These habits will keep it looking good for years.

Put it on last, take it off first

Perfume, hair spray, lotion and sunscreen can dull stone and weaken or stain the clay surface. Put your jewelry on after you finish getting ready, and take it off before you shower, swim, exercise or clean.

Keep it away from heat and strong sun

Leave jewelry out of hot cars and off sunny windowsills. Heat can affect polymer clay, and strong light can fade the color of some stones, such as rose quartz.

Clean it gently

Wipe the piece with a soft dry cloth. If it needs more, use a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away. Do not soak it, and do not use harsh cleaners, polishing liquids or ultrasonic cleaners.

Store pieces separately

Keep each piece in its own soft pouch or box compartment so harder stones do not scratch softer ones and clay details do not rub against metal. Close earring backs and clasps before storing.

Be careful with knocks

Clay details are small and handmade. Avoid pressing or bending them, and take care not to drop the jewelry on a hard floor.
